161 cases with abdominal aortic aneurysm without rupture in the Vascular Surgery Section during eight years (2005-2012)

Background: Pacients with abdominal aortic aneurysm without rupture benefi ciate from elective surgical treatment aft er correct evaluation. The Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases “Prof. Dr. C. C. Iliescu” is assigned as “for emergencies” in December 2008. Objectives: We present the distribution of the number of cases with the diagnosis abdominal aortic aneurysm without rupture from the vascular surgery section in this Institute per years, four years before and four years aft er this date. Material and methods: Retrospective study of the discharge patients during eight years. Results: 161 cases from the 1st of January 2005 through the 31st of December 2012 are distributed as following: 9 cases/2005 (5.59%), 13 cases/2006 (8,07%), 22 cases/2007 (13.66%), 17 cases/2008 (10,56%), 24 cases/2009 (14,91%), 26 cases/2010 (16.15%), 20 cases/2011 (12.42%) and 30 cases/2012 (18.64%). Conclusions: The number of the cases per year is increasing with two deflections (2008 and 2011) in this study; it is with 233.34% greater in the last year as compared to the first one. These findings correlate with the change of the profile of the Institute.
